I started working on Mellowtation three years ago in 2016. At that time I was only thinking of making a few tracks with some lo-fi rhodes samples. The collaborations took a lot of time and as the time went by I got new inspiration and the EP I had in mind grew into plans for making an album.
I added some funk and 80s vibes in the beats, and I used more synthesizers and keys in the production than I had first planned to. My goal was to finally make a full album after 12 years of making beats and finding my sound. I feel this project has made me grow a lot as an artist in the process.
The album name 'Mellowtation' is a word I came across which is described by the urban dictionary as, "To peacefully reflect upon life. No ritual, no chanting. Just calm, deep thoughts". As I was going for a mellow album, and because meditation is an important part of my life, I thought it just felt right and had a nice sound to it.
